Nas raises over $30,000 for homeless family

RnB/Hip Hop | Friday 9th August 2013 | Mark

Queensbridge rapper, Nas, restored some faith in humanity this week by raising more than $30,000, when setting up a fundraiser for single father, Stanley Young, whose house was destroyed in a fire just over 2 weeks ago in Washington DC. Nas set up the fund for Stanley Young, unemployed construction worker and father of 8, as soon as he heard about the disaster that rendered the family homeless. Nas started the campaign off by setting up a fund via CrowdTilt and donated $5,000 to start it off. After spreading the word to his twitter followers, in just less than a day, over $20,000 was donated, and Nas donated an extra $5,000 dollars on top of that.

Being a single father himself, this is what Nas wrote in his campaign description to help potential donators sympathize and possibly spare a few dollars to make a difference:

"I am also a single father, and we don't get enough credit in this country. I'm committed to helping Stanley and his eight (yes 8!) kids. Moreover, I believe and hope that we should all, as a community, come together to help our fellow American men and women when they need us in desperate situations like this. See if you can't find a few dollars to help the Youngs get back on their feet with me. We need to raise enough to extend their stay, and maybe even afford a down payment on a new house or something.

This is real. It is me. I'm putting in $5,000 myself. Never done something like this, but I have faith that our American community can pull together a miracle for this strong family who needs our help right now. We've already made our first, $20,000 goal, and I've put in another $5,000 on top.

Thanks and God bless"
