Single Review of Dream Koala's 'Odyssey'
Spine-tinglingly beautiful, German artist Dream Koala has created something incredibly special in ‘Odyssey’. Delving into the dark and often troubled depths of the human heart, mind and soul, ‘Odyssey’ is the perfect dream soundtrack, carefully dissecting delicate emotion and doubt with a fine-balance of shivering musicality. Citing the inspiration for the track as “a dream I had where I died in a plane crash”, the song also references Odyssey from the travels of Ulysses and “his fear of never coming back home and never reaching his ambitions. It's a track about deception and the fear of death, the fear of never accomplishing your goals.” The dark personal thought behind the song gifts the track a real emotional depth, enhancing the musicality and lyrics of the song tenfold.
‘Odyssey’ opens with a gentle, rocking xx-like guitar line that subtly weaves with a tinge of melancholy below vocalist Yndi’s intriguing, emotional vocals. Evolving like a dream, ‘Odyssey’ steadily grows in intensity, harnessing a whimsical creativity and luscious musical power before gently petering out as the listener reawakens from the tracks daydream as the music ceases to exist. Think of this track as a real dream and you will realise its stunning potential.
