Why Pusha T thinks his album will be best of 2013
Never short of confidence, the G.O.O.D Music rapper, Pusha T has claimed that his album due to be released this year will be superior to all the albums that came before it this year. “My album is the best album of the year” Pusha proclaimed, then stated that “I think the streets are going to have a classic hip-hop album." The bold statement is would be shocking had it not come from a rapper. It seems that the natural arrogance and confidence breeds and lives within all rappers, some sort of innate driving force.
Though Pusha’s album will bring “energy” and “the perfect album to put in my car and ride to,” there’s been some strong albums this year from the world of hip-hop that are strong contenders for the crown of best album from this calendar year.
A quick shortlist of contenders to Pusha’s upcoming album, My Name Is My Name, are: Kanye West’s Yeezus, Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail and J. Cole’s Born Sinner. Though all these artists are all within a similar clique, they all produced different albums this year which brought them closer to hip-hop immortality.
Ye’s album, modestly named Yeezus came out earlier this summer and showcased some more of the rappers versatility in terms of the beat he raps over. A fast paced album, Ye still manages to paint pictures with his words. Though it may not be the same sort of lyrics as ‘Jesus Walks’, the imagery in his words allowed us to full live life through Kanye’s eyes for all 11 tracks.
Magna Carta Holy Grail was Jay Z’s 12th solo album and the current Godfather of the game delivered. The mix of street hip-hop and the chart toppers helped the album make history. Samsung bought enough units of the album for it to become the first album to ever go platinum before its official release date.
Newer to the game, but with the class and skills of his elders, J. Cole produced a dynamic second album, Born Sinner. Cole’s flow, edgy lyrics and hot collaborations allowed him to produce a hit album. He even managed to spark a response from his idol, Nas, after the track ‘Let Nas Down’ was followed up by Nas himself with, ‘Made Nas Proud.’
There’s a lot for Pusha T to overcome, with these three just being a pick of the strong albums released this year. However, the trend seems to be that they are continuously getting better and better, so Pusha is right on track! He’s got the talent, hopefully the album will stick true to the path that Pusha wants it to follow and we’ll all be cruising in our cars, blasting My Name Is My Name.
