Artist Of The Month: Cyril Hahn

Switzerland born DJ brings out his first ever solo project.
The Vancouver based DJ firstly became largely recognised after the release of his remix of Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’. He managed to give the song a whole new feel to it through pitch shifted vocals and a loop beat which flowed beautifully. Shortly after, he found his popularity expanding in numbers through YouTube views and SoundCloud hits, and even to this day ‘Say My Name’ has over four million views. He’s remixed the likes of Solange Knowles, Gabrielle Aplin and Mariah Carey and has released them previously as free downloads. He’s able to give R&B songs a sultry chill out house vibe like no other DJ.
He’s already had an amazing year performing at Parklife Weekender in Manchester, London’s Found Festival and is due to DJ at Space Ibiza in September and Isle of Weight’s Bestival. Cyril’s recently been signed to Disclosure’s record label PMR, which has given him the popularity boost he deserves. He has a growing fan base even including artists such as The xx, Annie Mac and Jessie Ware who are all huge lovers of the DJ’s unique taste that he brings to the underground house scene. Cyril Hahn had created a mini mix for Annie Mac’s Friday night BBC R1 show playing songs in which have influenced his own productions. Artists include garage icon Burial, whose music is easily portrayed through Cyril’s.
We are used to Cyril Hahn’s remixes, but he’s recently uploaded a song to SoundCloud which is entirely his own creation. The track features Shy Girls whose soothing voice fits perfectly with the slow tempo beats. The track is to be released with PMR on the ninth of September, just days after his appearance at Bestival. This definitely won’t be the last we hear of Cyril Hahn, as we can expect plenty more classic R&B tunes remixed by the mastermind DJ and hopefully some more of his own material.
