John Grant- Pale Green Ghosts
He may have been around for a few years now, but John Grant has finally produced something that stands out amongst the crowd. Pale Green Ghosts mixes a soft electronic beat with a violin arrangement that you might see at the proms. John Grant's grasp vocals remain a like Tim Smith of Midlake with a clear delivery of every lyric. It’s also the opening track that invites the listener to enjoy more of him.
The Naked and The Famous- Hearts Like Ours
`Half awake, but almost dead` shouts Alisa Xayalith as she returns to the music scene. Alisa and her fellow New Zealand bandmates made a semi- impact in 2011 in the Uk when `Young Blood` made it on the XFM playlist. The Kiwis are much bigger in their homeland with their debut album going to number 1. The difficult sophomore album is always on the minds of any returning band. The Naked and the Famous however have shown with their new song that they don't want to disappear into the mist of forgotton bands, Larinkin Love already have succumed to that.
Franz Ferdinand- Love Ilumination
9 years ago 4 Scottish lads took home the trophy that is the credible equivalent of the Brits, the mercury prize which has been around since 1992. 2004 was without any doubt a big year from Franz Ferdinand. Around this time `Take Me Out` was more well known as the debut song of Franz’s self- titled record as oppose to Paddy McGuiness’s light entertainment gruel. Love illumination is a much brasier, heavier style then we have heard from Franz Ferdinand in a while. It may not be Franz at that best, but it has enough energy for some enthusiastic head bobbing.
