Since the B-side track ‘Want Love’ made its debut in 1996, the enigmatic house DJ and producer Hysteric Ego has enjoyed a 15 year journey of worldwide gigs, single sales and compilation instalments. Although the last couple of years have been a bit quiet for the producer, you will be pleased to know that it is not down to laziness. Hysteric Ego has been working hard, sitting in the studio mixing and mastering a brand new, three track EP.
The EP is called Touchdown and is a follow-up effort from his The Ego Has Landed EP which he released earlier this year under his Courtois imprint. Touchdown is also to be released under Courtois and both EP’s seem to mark a much darker turn for the deep house aficionado.
The first track, ‘I Can’t Find No Love’ (read into the title what you will), marries deep splintered vocals and heavy pads to give a general tone of dark sophistication. ‘Feel Good’ is in the same vein; continuing the theme of deep, ominous pads and eerie atmospherics the track builds to something a bit less melancholy and a bit more club-ready with a rolling deep house percussion and a faster tempo. The final track, a remix of ‘Want Love’ with The Timewriters Locomotive is something different altogether. With a number remixes of ‘Want Love’ already making the rounds (check out Craziba and Jerome Robin’s efforts) this one is set to be something of a hit. The original track is stripped down to its basic synth hook and is given a dark, sexy revamp topped with a deep bassline and an ambient female vocal sample.
With two EP’s already under its belt, it seems Courtois is set to make waves in today’s flourishing house scene. Check out Hysteric Ego’s new EPs below.
