Underground champ Edo G set to smash Archspace

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 30th November 2017 | Phil

For fans of underground hip hop, Edo G should need no introduction. With a career in the rap game spanning the better part of 30 years, 6 LPs, 7 collab albums and more features than a smartphone from the future, the Boston native has over the years remained relevant and retained the respect of his peers, with his lyricism always leaning more towards a conscious, Native Tongues essence than a gangsta, G Unit flavour.

With a body of work including material with top producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premier and Statik Selektah and rappers including Rza, KRS One, Black Though of The Roots, not to mention Masta Ace of Juice Crew/Cold Chillin’ fame, Edo G has over the course of three decades worked with many of the most celebrated rappers and producers in the game.

From a British perspective he has consistently popped up over the years, featuring on the albums of artists such as The Brand New Heavies (1992), hip hop producer Copperpot (2005) and The Four Owl’s Verb T (2007).

His recent material speaks volumes as to his musical grounding and unfaltering dedication to that unmistakable boom bap, golden age sound. Last year he released collaboration LP ‘Recognise Your Power’ with fellow underground champion and veteran Shabaam Sahdeeq then in September earlier this year released his 6th studio produced solo, ‘FreEDOm’, an album that contains sweet vibes and heavy beats along with from the ground social commentary on U.S issues such as gun violence and the underlying racism that has re-emerged Stateside following the election of Donald Trump as POTUS.

So if you fancy a night full of golden age, boom bap hip hop beats and timeless bars from Boston’s finest, hit up Archspace on December 6th, you can buy tickets for this one off show here.
