West London UK rap legend drops tribute track for Grenfell victims

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 24th August 2017 | Phil

Most of you reading this will be too young to recognise this man. All you really need to know is that he is a lifelong West London resident and a UK rap legend who hung up his mic many, many moons ago.

The tragedy of Grenfell Tower has compelled Niko The Dubh to come out of retirement, even if it is temporary. He has cut a track dedicated to the memories of those that lost their lives through the appalling negligence and failure of policy that led to the still unconfirmed death toll, likely to number up to 150 victims by the end of the year.

As a member of Cash Crew in the early 1990s who along with Hijack, Demon Boyz, London Posse, MC D and Caveman formed the bedrock that would become the foundation of the UK Hip Hop scene we all know and love today. It is a little-known fact that Niko and his Cash Crew brothers made history as the first British rap act to make waves both in the USA and in Europe.

This haunting tribute to the victims of Grenfell exhibits the heartbreaking sadness and untold outrage of those who lost loved ones, local residents and disgusted members of public from across the country.

For those of you hitting up Carnival this year, many people will be wearing something green as an acknowledgement and sign of respect to those that lost their lives and in solidarity with #JusticeForGrenfell campaigners.

Shouts out to Niko along with Osh and Chola at Guestlist.net for helping to make the video happen.

Share this track and rock something green at carnival this year to show that you care. Find out how you can help at Justice4Grenfell
