Eighty-two Kidnapped Girls Freed By Boko Haram

Other | Friday 12th May 2017 | David

After lengthy negotiations with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the terrorist organisation Boko Haram have released eighty-two kidnapped schoolgirls from captivity.

Five Boko Haram commanders were also released by the Nigerian government in exchange.

Barrister Mustapha Zanna, played a key role in the negotiations with the terrorist organisation, who released the girls this week. The freed captives were picked up in helicopters and red cross vehicles which were safely delivered to the capital of Abuja.

The eighty-two freed girls formed part of the two hundred and seventy-six who were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok on 14 April 2014.

A global campaign called 'Bring Back Our Girls', which was supported by former US First Lady Michelle Obama and noted human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, was launched shortly afterwards.

Boko Haram swore allegiance to ISIS in 2015 and is estimated to have over fifteen thousand members. Many of the kidnapped girls are still being held captive, so we can only hope at this point that the negotiations continue.
