The Velvet Two Stripes Have Got Us Good

Indie | Tuesday 11th April 2017 | Rachel

Scandinavian riot grrrl band Velvet Two Stripes are back with a new EP Got me Good, and it's all leather thrills, helter-skelter drumming, scorched vocals and Delta blues guitar.

Consisting of sisters Sophie and Sara, and bassist Franca Mock, the band's sleazy riffing and blues charm calls to mind classic rock pioneers such as The Kills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Deap Valley.

Already well known in their homeland, and having been dubbed “the coolest Swiss band ever”, Velvet Two Stripes are now gaining some much-deserved international attention.

'Fire', the ferocious and snarling first single to be released by the girls has grabbed listeners and made them stand to attention.

The first single has now been followed up by their self titled debut album, which offers most poignantly Sophie's blustering vocals held together by shredding guitars. Likewise, tracks like 'Hey Boy' have received similar merit in their savagery to Royal Blood.

‘Hey Boy’ gets you hooked immediately; in the band’s own words "this is exactly what the song is about. Being fatally attracted to someone. All or nothing.'

Velvet Two Stripes have also gone on to tour exceptionally, playing major festivals such as the Great Escape and Reeperbahn Festival and touring with the likes of The Vaccines and ToySop. h

Rarely has such a snotty and bluesy all-girl outfit emerged to take on the world and make their international presence irreversible. Now that they have broken out to the rest of the world, they are here to stay.
