Find out which London –based band has been described as being one of the best indie pop-rock acts of 2013!
Music eminence has come to the indie pop-rock duo The Proper Ornaments with their latest debut album release of Waiting for the Summer. Melodic pop has met upbeat rock to create a ten track album full of great summer tunes, with the opening track ‘Waiting for the Summer’ being described by NME as:
“... a charming slice of hazy pop with a lovely guitar riff.”
This title track is beautifully simplistic, exposing calm and refined vocals which are strongly complemented by peaceful guitar riffs. Together these elements compose a song which epitomises summer through music, a calm, relaxing vibe that you aim to enjoy during summer. Other tracks have successfully keyed in this summer vibe, and beautifully display the talent and style of The Proper Ornaments. ‘Nervous Breakdown’ is a very soothing track that is alluring and gorgeous, despite the name – a title that does not invite a positive response. The tempo throughout the album is kept at a quite slow pace, however, ‘Drop Off’ which is arguably the most buoyant track enjoys a fastened rhythm and fun lyrics that are make a very pleasant song!
The Proper Ornaments only formed in 2010, four years after James Haare and Max Claps met in a shoe store in Notting Hill, where Haare was working. Attempting to distract Haare whilst his girlfriend of the time was tried to steal a pair of boots, Clips found there was a connection with the shopkeeper and they exchanged numbers. Although the girlfriend didn’t get her boots, the boys got more than they thought from a day of shopping and working. The boys spent a lot of time hanging out: sharing, fighting, and having late night listening sessions; then came The Proper Ornaments. The pop-rock duo found success in their double release with two highly recognised labels: San Francisco’s Make a Mess Records and London’s independent No Pain In Pop, and found their reputation growing when they joined acts such as Michael Lovett and Wesley Patrick Gonzalez on stage. Now the release of the album Waiting for the Summer, which is full of great tracks, will certainly see The Proper Ornaments climb great musical heights. Clash stated what they thought of the album’s title track:
“It’s as perfect a piece of indie pop as you’ll hear this year.”
Already this album has been critically acclaimed and formed a large fan-base. The best of summer 2013’s indie pop-rock is brought to you by London’s own The Proper Ornaments. Listen to the title track, ‘Waiting for the Summer’, right here:
