Beats and Bikes: Cycling For Charity!

Thursday 27th June 2013 | Abby

Crossing seven countries in 14 days and travelling by bicycle! Four friends will embark on a courageous, determined, and emotionally stimulating journey from London to Dimensions Festival in Southern Croatia on the 24th August for the sake of music and charity!

Tom Morgan and Sarah Jones, two Brownswood Recordings employees from London, and their two close friends, Henry Worssam and James Skinner, make up the Beats ‘n’ Trail Team, who are attempting to cover 1100 miles over a two week period all in the name of music and charity. This group of music loving friends want to travel to Dimensions Festival to raise awareness and funds for two British charities, the Steve Reid Foundation and The Back Up Trust, which are held close to the hearts of these four Londoners. Tom Morgan stated:

Everyone knows festivals goers and music heads love having a good time, and we want to take it further by also doing a good thing.”

In 2003, Tom Morgan’s sister, Sophie, was involved in a traumatic car crash, and consequently she endured severe spinal injury, leaving her paralysed neck-down. Not only being physically limited, Sophie struggled mentally to come to terms with what she had experienced. Invaluable support was given to Sophie by the Back Up Trust, and this has been one of the emotionally stimulating reasons that this fund is one of the targets for the Beats ‘n’ Trail Team. Tom Morgan, not having done any consistent physical activity for over a year:

“Firstly, I wanted to see if I could do it. I saw a documentary years ago about the man who cycled the world, covering 100 miles a day for 180 days. This both amazed me, and clearly got the better of my imagination. Being able to tie the challenge in with going to an incredible festival such as Dimensions, alongside raising money for two charities I’m both passionate about and close to, and I had to do it!”

Instigating this journey was complemented by Sarah Jones’ passion and voluntary work for the Steve Reid Fund, which was set up under DJ Gilles Peterson in remembrance of a notorious jazz drummer. This organisation is aimed at supporting musicians in crisis, while encouraging emerging artists to work towards their dreams.

Full of determination and passion, this team will trek across Europe, 80 miles each day, all in hopes to raise awareness and raise £7, 500 for charity. We can support this cause, for the love of music, cycling, or just for the love of helping others. We can take part in Beats ‘n’ Trail’s venture by donating here!  Every penny helps!
