Everything You've Come to Expect and more from the Last Shadow Puppets

Indie | Wednesday 13th April 2016 | Cristina

Alex Turner and Miles Kane return to top form on this, their second album as the Last Shadow Puppets. If The Age of the Understatement was an exercise in 60s baroque pop, Kane and Turner have moved a decade or so into the future on Everything You've Come to Expect. Yet, for all its 70s nostalgia, the record is full of surprises.

On ‘Aviation’, the ghost of Scott Walker is as present as it ever was on the ‘Shadow Puppets’ first album, The Age of the Understatement, which links the two albums. However, after this, the album wanders through experiments of hazy, sunset music which reflect Turner and Kane’s relocation to California.

Mixing soulful inspirations such as Isaac Haayes on Hot Buttered Soul with the kind of lush orchestral arrangements which were hinted at on album number one, the album creates tracks like the eponymous Everything You’ve Come to Expect, dreamy and dramatic in equal measure.

The Last Shadow Puppets are on Twitter, Facebook and Soundcloud.
