World War Z Global Box Office Surprise

Wednesday 26th June 2013 | Emma

The new zombie action movie starring Brad Pitt – ‘World War Z’, was a shock for many movie “experts”. The film which got very dim reviews from critics and very bad press, has stormed the global box office.

The new zombie-drama was predicted to be the biggest failure of the year since the production costs were estimated at about $200 million, making it the most expensive zombie movie in history. Critics said that a movie like that wouldn't be able to earn any money with its predictable plot. However, does everyone listen to the critics? Most people didn’t and the opening weekend scores were a huge success.

‘World War Z’, according to box office, has earned just after its first few days almost $120 million worldwide with $66million domestic. That number, believe it or not, made it the largest domestic opening of original live action movie since Avatar. It also made it Brad Pitt’s biggest opening ever.

Rumors said that after such big success in global box office, ‘World War Z’ earned a sequel. Nothing was confirmed but there were some hints, not only at the end of the movie but also when Brad Pitt mentioned at various premieres about not being able to cover all the material from the book in one movie. At the premiere in Moscow he said, "There is enough [material] to mine from the book. We could barely get a fraction of the book in [this movie]. So we'll see. We'll see."
