Winter Social fires up our Febuary

The continued onslaught of wind and rain certainly didn't dampen the mood of the spirited faithful who descended on The Winter Socials new location at the Kent Country showground. With a handful of debuts from the House and Techno domain, The Winter Social offered an appetising selection of talent that has now become synonymous with any Social event. The venue catered well for the thousands that amalgamated for this day and night party, and the 2 areas worked well next to each other with easy access between the two. Having only just missed Maya Jane Coles set at the Meadow, The Barn offered some reprieve as it played host to Viva Music's head honchos debut. Steve Lawler has been pioneering the tech house sound since the late 90's, and is now catching the attention of a new, young and hungry audience with his Viva Warrior parties that regularly tour the globe and held down its own weekly residency at Sankeys Ibiza last summer.
Making our way over to the Meadow after Lawler’s tech house onslaught, the place echoed the ambience of a random retro 90's warehouse rave, with it's logistical layout decorated with bars down each side, the usual selection of fast food joints, cash machines and a crammed covered smoking which all ran outside across the entire length of the venue. At the Meadow, Nina Kraviz delighted with her acid infused set and fortified just why she is one of the most exciting names making noise right now. Bouncing between the two arenas, it became a hard choice of where we should spend our time as Eats Everything went back to back with Yousef and totally owned the crowd as they lapped up their energetic vibes and literally kept everyone's mouths gurning for more.
Social boss, Nic Fanciulli went back 2 back with Joris Voorn, who both kept it bubbling whilst schooling some of the newbies, dropping Mylo's "Drop The Pressure" to perfectly cement the party atmosphere that was consuming the crowd. With another long awaited debut up next, Techno titan Adam Beyer didn't disappoint as he rounded off the proceedings, and reminded us why his Drumcode record label is a still a major powerhouse with its constant delivery of quality Techno over the years.
Overall another successful event for the Social, which is a testament to their exciting programming curated by Nic and his crew, carefully handpicking some of the best talent to represent for their Winter February gathering. Highlights of the night for us had to be Nina Kraviz, for her seductively raw and undiluted Acid house journey, the "up for it" crowd, who were out to party instead of the usual posing and pouting and the guy that thought it was hilarious to fake a fit in the mud, catching the attention of the passing police car and being taken away for potentially posing a threat to the crowd that spurned him on in the first place. What a legend!
The Social return for their Summer edition on September 10th, watch this space.
