Hotly tipped Devonshire singer - songwriter Ben Howard has been confirmed to play a number of dates supporting Barefoot Wine and Surfers Against Sewage’s initiative to clean up Britain’s beaches making them ‘barefoot friendly’ once more. Howard will play three invitation only shows at three of the venues being cleaned up, namely Porthtowan, Cornwall (June 26th), Kingsbarn, Fife, Scotland (July 9th) and Whitley Bay, North Tyneside (August 26th), with the shows only accessible to volunteers. Ben has recently been tipped by the likes of Zane Lowe and Lauren Laverne and his recently released Old Pine EP has been very well received, gaining positive reviews across the board. This in addition to the fact that his debut LP is due in September means that there is a considerable amount of hype surrounding the talented youngster. A surfer himself, the issue of clean beaches is naturally close to the heart of Howard, and as such the intimate shows are bound to have a fantastic buzz and atmosphere surrounding them. Speaking on the issue Howard had this to say “I grew up in south Devon and so the coast has always played a huge part in my life – I still surf when I can. Barefoot Wine and SAS’s events this summer are a great idea – it will make a huge difference in keeping as many beaches as possible barefoot friendly.” For more details on the beach clean ups taking place visit www.sas.org.uk, and to check out the summery sounds of Ben Howard visit his myspace page at www.myspace.com/benhoward.
