Evicted War Vet gets a Home for Christmas Other | Monday 7th December 2015 | Tom Charity GoFundMe Johnnie Hodges is a 90 year old World War Two veteran from Buffalo, New York who was evicted after falling behind on his late wife's medical bills. That was until Greg Elwood, a complete stranger from nearby Williamsville started a GoFundMe campaign to get him his house back. Now, just in time for Christmas the campaign has raised $110,000, enough for Johnnie Hodges to get his house back from the bank. ‘I’m very happy to be back...and spend Christmas with my family in my home’ the veteran told ABC News. Hodges had lived in his home for 60 years before he was evicted, then in June, Elwood read about Johnny Hodges plight in the local news, leading to over 2000 people donating money. A welcome party was thrown for Mr Hodges return. ‘I’m always happy when I’m in my home. I walk around, sit on my porch when it’s a nice day and I enjoy the nice weather and my friends will come by...there’s no place like home’ Hodges told ABC news. What a heart warming story!
