KOMANA`s magical and ethical prints

Other | Saturday 14th November 2015 | Eva

We often have stereotypes about whatever doesn`t fall in our daily routine or shopping habits. In our world of fast fashion, we aren't used to spending a good amount of money on quality items

Komana, the organic & fair trade printing clothing and interiors brand shares its name with a village in Botswana.

The label was founded by Swiss sisters Nina, a seamstress, and Livia Henne, a print designer who trained at Central St. Martins in London and is currently run between London and Berlin.

Komana serves as the proof that you can have fashionable, quality, longlasting and extremely feminine garments all in one. Their signature style is bold, quirky and unique prints, sometimes surrealist, realized with organic and fairly traded materials.

They describe their style as fun and out of the ordinary, inspired by Victorian oddities, tribal art, folklore and most importantly of all, nature. They create objects and clothes that tell a story by using the finest, certified organic fabrics and by choosing ethical production methods..

They use old fashioned production methods, that are sustainable and ethical, working with collage, free hand drawing and paint brushing. They personally print the textiles using silkscreens. The aim is also to reduce waste with an upcycling project in place using cut offs.

They also proud themselves for their commitment with Tree Nation, the planting community united against climate change which plants a tree in Niger, Africa for every KOMANA garment sold.

“We strongly believe in a fair living wage for all people involved in our production”
