Tom Misch Making Waves

Fresh off the release of his well-received Summer album simply named 'Beat Tape 2', 20 year-old producer, Tom Misch has been releasing various tracks which make up Beat Tape 2 (Extended Edition) and are most definitely worthy of reaching the ears of his ever-growing fanbase. With a set at Bestival and Parklife behind his back and the release of his album on iTunes, as well as much-coveted airplay on Apple's 'Beats1' Radio station, it is fair to say that 2015 has been a great year for the young Londoner.
Beat Tape 2 is a lesson in how to make complete hip-hop beats with different feels to them. Despite his young age, Misch seems to have a mastery of the genre, he understands how to make a great track that appeals to his listeners, seemingly by channeling his inner J Dilla. Nightgowns featuring fellow young Londoner, Loyle Carner is a chilled out hip hop track with a steady beat and strong lyrics to it, whereas The Journey (which has been featured on Majestic Casuals and has nearly 2 million views) is a piece that is inspired by the chilled out vibes of J Dilla coupled with beautiful guitar riffs that even the most accomplished of guitarists would be proud of.
A self-proclaimed J Dilla obsessive, it is clear to see that Misch draws much inspiration from the late Detroit producer; Misch's homage to him, entitled 'Dilla Love' is a beautiful piece of music begging for a talented artist to rap over. So, it is with no coincidence that Misch linked up with none other than Illa J - J Dilla's younger brother - on his latest track 'Raise Your Hands'.
The younger Yancey brother compliments Misch's chilled out, jazzy hip-hop beat with a perfectly matched voice to create a track that I'm sure J Dilla himself would be proud of. If you haven't listened to it yet, get your earphones out, make a nice cup of tea, sit down, put your feet up and get ready to be taken away to another planet.
