New hydrogen batteries charge your iPhone for a week

Other | Monday 28th September 2015 | Annalisa

It has been claimed by British Tech Company, Intelligent Energy that they have created a mobile phone battery powered by hydrogen which will run for an entire week before needing to be recharged.

The patented technology creates electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen, producing small amounts of heat and water as waste.

It’s believed that Intelligent Energy are working closely with Apple, they seem to have incorporated one of their new fuel cells into an iPhone 6 without any alteration to the device’s size or shape, the only cosmetic difference from the photos appears to be rear vents so the waste water vapour can escape the device.

For the commercial launch of the hydrogen battery, Intelligent Energy are working on a disposable fuel cell that would slot into future smart phones and contain enough hydrogen to charge the device for a week. Both Apple and Intelligent Energy declined to comment on Apple’s presence within the testing phase of this product however, all the photographs show an Apple iPhone 6 being used as the test product with the fuel cell.

This new technology will mean the end of a great deal of annoyance for a lot of people who rely on mobile devices for out of office work for example, allowing them to work remotely for a longer amount of time, not needing to worry about getting to a plug socket. People who use their phones regularly will be pleased with this breakthrough technology as having enough charge for 7 days means that the days of being careful of your battery usage are over, gamers are able to play more demanding apps for considerably longer periods of time such as slots available at LadyLucks website or through their mobile App.

This new technology can also change the way that developers create software as they were previously limited by the app’s mobile power, this isn’t something that they would necessarily need to take into account anymore, which could potentially open up a whole new world of mobile shopping, gaming and communication for example.
