Canadian multi-instrumentalist and multimedia artist Mac DeMarco releases his fifth studio album on August 7 via Captured Tracks. We break down Another One for you.
DeMarco first emerged from complete obscurity under the moniker Makeout Videotape. Immediately after finishing high school in 2008, he moved from his hometown of Edmonton to Vancouver, and self-released Heat Wave, a collection of songs he wrote and recorded while bored during his school years. Another One is his fourth album and follows his 2014 breakout release, Salad Days. The vibe is still the same, a mix between indie and rock music, recorded fully solo during a gap in his relentless tour schedule at his new place in Far Rockaway, Queens.
This album is bittersweet, with an overall feeling of lost love. Showing how gifted he is an artist, DeMarco fully embraces the theme without making it a sad experience for the listener; all the playfulness of classic Mac is present and correct. That's the amazing thing about him, he never gets bored and is always trying to do something new, giving everything to his fans.
