Snap Galleries presents its first ever dedicated Kinks exhibition, running until August 8th. The pictures show the theatrical side of the band, with many of the images taken during legendary TV shows or concerts and backstage at famous venues. The exhibition brings together works of Bruce Fleming, Val Wilmer, Bent Rej, Dezo Hoffmann, Mike Leale and Barrie Wentzell, all of whom captured The Kinks at the beginning of their golden period from 1964 to 1968. You'll see moments from their early studios sessions to the acclaimed 1968 album Village Green Preservation Society. And here's something really amazing; some of the photos are being shown for the very first time.
The Kinks initially stayed within the boundaries of genres such as R&B and blues, but soon began experimenting with louder rock and hard rock melodies. This is what the pictures display, the contrast between heavy rock and smooth tunes. This exhibition totally corresponds to current renaissance of the band - the musical Sunny Afternoon is enjoying a wonderful West End run and The Anthology box set, featuring their greatest muscial moments, has been delighting fans old and new.
