Guestlist Recommends: Can't Dance

Indie | Wednesday 12th June 2013 | Conor

Hailing from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Can’t Dance is a three piece indie rock outfit lifted straight from the 90s Alternative scene, a claim which they in no way refute, describing themselves as ‘Your local 90's Alternative rip-off band.’ It would be easy to simply disregard them based on this rather self-deprecating introduction but where many have tried and unfortunately failed Can’t Dance manage to imitate the unique 90s alternative sound in their self-released debut EP Comfortably Dumb.

With named influences including Pavement, Built to Spill and Cloud Nothings and with hints of Smashing Pumpkins, the EP consists of seven tracks of chaotic, distorted guitar riffs driven by even more hectic drumming, with vocalist Jordan Gorsuch mumbling lyrics which are packed with youthful imagery.

The production of Can't Dance's debut EP is left wanting in places but the band make up for this with pure zeal and enthusiasm.

Comfortably Dumb is released on June 18th and can be purchased from their bandcamp (http://cantdance.bandcamp.com/). A deluxe physical edition is also available with two extra tracks, including a rather superb cover of the XX’s Crystalised.
