Pretty Lights has a genre of music which is hard to define. To date his most successful hit 'Finally Moving' takes a sample from Avicci’s mammoth hit levels.
Pretty lights encapsulates the listener and transports them to an indescribable place. The song is close to perfect whatever the mood and the violin in the back ground along with occasional scratching allow for a beautifully well-constructed track which is full of layers and ‘musical ingredients’. It’s what the Colorado based DJ does so well.
He constructs songs by stacking layers of samples and beats together to form wonderful beats. In 2010 he put out 3 albums, each one consisting of 8 tracks. Each song on the album sends it down a different musical path while also providing fresh but funky beats one can enjoy and appreciate. Its appreciation which is key to pretty lights work, you just sit back and watch a true professional at work. His presentation of his songs is like no other artist around, and in 2012 he performed at set at the world famous Shambhala that was nothing short of extraordinary. When the bass kicks in he seems to control a whole room of excited fans and mesmerize them.
It’s often said that a DJ needs big drops and production to help the audience connect. However the only thing Pretty Lights needs is his music which is sure to captivate anybody listening. Occasionally he speeds up his songs to add dimension and he receives critical acclaim wherever he goes. Definitely someone who should be more recognised Pretty Lights is bringing his own brand of music to town. His album 'A Colour Map Of The Sun' is sure to continue his rise, watch out for it on July 2nd.
