Tech - Get Your Game On!

Tuesday 28th May 2013 | Laura

We’ve launched birds at one another; we’ve even maintained our very own farms. Since smartphones took off online gaming companies have bombarded us with thousands of new (utterly addictive) creations. Now here’s the latest… crushing candy.

The aim of the game is beautifully simple - eliminate the candy! Each level has a board filled with candies and occasional obstacles, and it’s pretty basic at first – align three candies of the same colour and they disappear. It gets trickier. Time limits come into play and can be infuriating, they might even prompt you to buy an add-on and eliminate an entire row of candy for £2.99!

The game’s huge, and recent stats reflect this. Candy Crush Saga has soared past Angry Birds in becoming the world’s most popular game. It’s hardly surprising once you know it’s got over 20 million likes on Facebook – it’s Apple and Google’s highest-grossing app, too. All this has propelled London based King Games into success – they’re now the world’s most popular game developer! They’ve got a few more cool games you might want to check out including Pet Rescue Saga, Bejeweled Blitz and Bubble Witch Saga, which all share Candy Crush’s format.

The game’s marketed at casual gamers and is – as ‘King.com’s’ Tony Palm put it – a 'snackable' game. It’s a perfect game to use on-the-go, or to just pass the time! No controller’s required here, you can play Candy Crush Saga as long as you’ve got access to the internet. (And 69p, if you’re a first-timer). Check out King's site here.

If you’re not part of the Candy Crush clan and you're looking for a simple (and, if we're honest, extremely addictive!) game then you’ll want to have a look at this one. It's available to download on Apple and Google App stores as well as being available online via social networking websites. Give it a go - a whopping 656,026 people alone have already given it 5 stars on Google downloads... now ain't that just sweet!
