Hidden away in Covent Garden, the heart of the West End is one London’s jazziest restaurants; Joe Allen. With such a subtle entrance you wouldn’t notice it at a first glance, but as you descend down the stairs you step into another era, the walls are made of thick red brick, and covered head to toe in framed posters of theatre shows. It has the charm of a speakeasy with its low lighting, the tablecloths are checkered, and the whole place is extremely inviting.
Although known for their delicious burgers, uniquely, the burger does not actually appear on the menu, you have to ask for it. In addition to this there are the fabulously tangy BBQ spare ribs are a must have. The menu is traditional American, but there are also French aspects of it. What really gives you a hint of the past and makes this restaurant, is listening to the classics and the show tunes being played out on the ivory piano. I definitely recommend it, perfect for a family or for night out with a friend.
