Bowie's New Video

Indie | Wednesday 27th February 2013 | Becca

Surreal, is the best word I’d use to describe Bowie’s video for his latest track,  ‘The Stars (Are Out Tonight)’. We're all definitely in anticipation for his new album due for release later this year.

Let’s mention the track first. Bowie’s voice sounds a little strained, but faultless still. In terms of sounding like his older material, the song would probably fit pretty well on Reality, as it has the alt-rock sound all over it.

The video has been directed by Floria Sigismondi, and stars non-other than actress, Tilda Swinton.

It seems to tell the story of a couple (Bowie and Swinton), one of them being a retired solo artist (Bowie), being traumatised by their past. Haunted by the antics of their younger days. The younger version of the couple is played by two models, Andrej Pejic and Saskia De Brauw.

Throughout the video the two seperate couples come face to face, and the younger couple overcome the older pair, and by the end, swap places. The whole thing is well acted, very arty, sexual, and proves that, in my opinion, David Bowie is well enough to play live.

His new album is due for release next month, after a decade of no new material from the star, it is fingers crossed for good things.
