Ghostpoet's back with more melancholy blues...

Monday 18th February 2013 | Megan

Ghostpoet’s latest single ‘MSI MUDMID’ sounds like it was spawned in those uneasy early hours, wavering on the brink of a heavy comedown. Jagged electronic glitches are thrown over menacing piano and Ghostpoet’s trademark melancholy mumblings which, whilst dark in their delivery, are never lacking in humour.

Since his last album, Ghostpoet has put together a series of mixtapes for NTS radio, showing off his truly varied taste in music. There are grime tracks alongside house music, indie bands, and even a bit of TLC thrown into the mix. All of these influences can be heard in his music, which he describes as ‘experimental electronic hip hop’, and this is surely why he appeals to so many people, including those who may not usually be into hip hop.

There’s something reminiscent of Roots Manuva in his humour: he doesn’t take himself too seriously (his lyrics are about, er, noodles) which is refreshing. The bass-heavy backdrops on his tracks will appeal to fans of SBTRKT and Fourtet. His forthcoming second album Some Say I So I Say Light is released on 6th May, and we can only hope it matches the success of his first.
