Be brave, stand out!

Fashion is in constant evolution, so much so that style will always have new meaning every six months. Defined on the runway, designers create innovative pieces that melt our hearts and drain our wallets. With New York Fashion Week AW13 officially over, it’s time to look back on what our favourite artists sent down the catwalk.

With an overwhelming amount of print, the upcoming fall and winter seasons will be seeing a lot of freedom of expression, using whatever lines and shapes to stand out from the crowd. Designers like Kenneth Cole and Michael Kors were obvious about their interest in inspiring people to dress bravely and to not fear mixing prints. However, Kathleen Kye is the queen of art this year as her graffiti pieces were eye-catching, young, and strong.

On the other hand, many designers decided to stay a little safe, but definitely strong, using classic looks and fabrics that we already see people saving up for! To make sure they didn’t bore, Vera Wang, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Nicholas K used a heavy amount of bold colours to make sure we didn’t see a monochrome world come the colder days. Even with more sporty brands like Lacoste and Y-3, it was evident that ‘looking into the future’ was the general theme this year as sporting goods never looked so chic.

We loved the amount of contrast and synergy this year and are very impressed with the bravery the designers displayed. Thanks to them, we predict a colourful Christmas season following our very colourful summer yet to come!
