The iconic band who gave us ‘Teenage Kicks’ are set to play four headline shows across the UK this May.
Kicking off at KOKO in Camden on 24th, this is a great opportunity to see a legendary band, who having stood the test of time with classics like ‘My Perfect Cousin’ and ‘Jimmy Jimmy', are still holding their own and winning over fans in younger generations. Since reforming in 1999 after a 16-year hiatus, the group have racked up notable performances at Glastonbury and at the UEFA Champions League.
Having also released two original albums, Get what You Need and Dig Yourself Deep, the chance to hear old classics and new material live should be a great moment for fans. As the focus of a BBC documentary which aired in 2012, ‘Here Comes the Summer: The Undertones Story’, the popularity and longevity of the band is a testament to how their music still resonates with loyal fans and new listeners.
Indeed their influence over the music scene today is still evident, with Green Day and The Raconteurs both covering tributes to the Irish rockers, subtle parallels of influence, which are also evident in the respective bands’ music. Ultimately a very special tour, and a great chance to reconnect with / discover the unsung heroes of post-punk.
