Newcomers PEACE bring the beats
In the increasingly hyped and prevalent B-town (that’s Birmingham by the way) scene the clear forerunners of the movement is PEACE, a four piece who’ve already attained a BBC Sound of 2013 poll position and a tonne of NME buzz. Already signed up to Columbia records and with their debut In Love out on March 25th if you haven’t already, now’s the time to jump onto the hype train.
So where to start? While their newest single ‘Wraith’ and the upcoming re-release of debut single ‘Follow Baby’ are great single material, they’re not the real reason to be so hyped. It’s their September EP release Delicious which is why so many people are excited. On that release the band displayed a range of styles that most bands rarely show on a whole album, while PEACE still kept to that high quality. ‘Bloodshake’ was more in line with those aforementioned singles but to an even higher quality while ‘California Daze’ invoked Beatles-esque harmonies. Lastly ‘1998 Delicious’ was a post-punk infused cover over a Binary Finary trance track which really showed what the band is capable of. It’s this range of skills and styles while keeping the fun levels high and the beats solid which is so reminiscent of the Stone Roses classic debut. Of course that’s a hard legacy to live up to but if a band can reach that level, then 2013 may just be theirs for the taking because although their name is PEACE, this is going to be an invasion.
