Cannabis to cure Alzheimer's?

Other | Wednesday 6th February 2013 | Harry

Today could turn out to be a groundbreaking day for stoners all around the world. For too long have we been oppressed and forced to hide or feel ashamed of our habit. But now it seems we might be the ones having the final laugh (and that’s not just because we’re high).

A group from Neuroscience Research Australia has been examining if cannabidiol, which is one of the main ingredients in cannabis, can possibly reverse the symptoms of dementia, specifically Alzheimer’s disease.

And would you believe it, early research in the study has found that it does...

To come to this early conclusion the scientists injected mice with a disease comparable to Alzheimer’s, and then gave them doses of cannabidiol. Apparently the results have been pretty drastic so far as Tim Karl, one of the researchers said “it basically brings the performance of the animals back to the level of healthy animals... You could say it cured them, but we will have to go back and look at their brains to be sure.”

Although it is early days this is exciting news. Not only for those stoners worried that they have been destroying their brain cells for years, but for the world as a whole. If this study really makes a breakthrough it could change the world as we know it.

Here’s to hoping.
