The French musician’s debut album The Golden Age will be out next 18th March

This month we want to recommend an “emerging” artist that it can be mainly tagged as Epic. With a successful background in video directing, Yoann Lemoine, who operates as Woodkid, creates a sound in the heights of his visual imaginary. Preceded by a cue of famous names which he has worked for, directing Grammy-nominated shorts including the ones for Taylor Swift (Back to December), Lana Del Rey (Born to Die), Drake & Rihanna (Take Care) and Katy Perry (Teenage Dream) and also a series of roughs for Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, he has really made a label on the industry. But Lemoine is more than a spoiled celebrity wanting to expand his cv. Woodkid, who studied illustration and animation, have always had –like Zooey Deschanel- a secret passion for music. So while he was recording the videos of different artists, he was starting getting involved and latched on to music.

It was last year when he announced he was going to get serious with music, as he was recording his debut album. The Golden Age, which will be released through independent label Green United Music, will include the already popular tracks ‘Run Boy Run’ (the first single for the album) and ‘Iron’ amongst other great songs. His song ‘Iron’ was featured in trailers for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the film Hitchcock, and also inspired the French couture brand Dior Homme's Fall-Winter 2013 collection "A Soldier On My Own", named after the lyrics of the song; whereas ‘Run Boy Run’ was used in several O2 adverts and its original video was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Both songs have been also used in ad campangs for Nike, Dior, Peugeot and Guinness.

His secret is the deep powerful symphonies played by a 30-piece orchestra, which remind us the emotionally engaging melodies used to accompany epic battles. They could perfectly be part of Braveheart or Gladiator’s soundtracks. But in combination with his melancholic voice and sentimental lyrics over synths, it really gets to your soul -the more sensitive you are, the more you will feel it. His "symphonic pop" truly accomplishes his main objective, to make his music “as tall as a skyscraper”.  A perfect example of this outstanding combination, is his already released  video for ‘I Love You’, where we can see all Woodkid has to offer. Hats off to him!
