The Return of the Wu?

The Wu- Tang Clan are back in the news in a big way recently (if you could ever really say they weren’t). With Ghostface Killah and Sheek Louch’s recent ‘Wu Block’ collaboration, RZA’s foray into cinema with his directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fists, Method Man’s recent admission that his new album Crystal Meth will happen (when “I get my ass off the couch”), and of course Raekwon’s new EP, Lost Jewelry. The Buzz surrounding Wu-Tang Clan is starting to reach fever pitch once more. This isn’t just because they are starting new projects and people are getting a bit nostalgic over what once was. No, this is because the overriding chat surrounding these guys is that there could very well be a new Wu-Tang album on the horizon to mark the 20th anniversary of their earth shattering debut.
Buzz has been building for a while now and members have been coy about giving too much away but it would seem that talks are progressing and it looks like every fans dream could come true. Last year RZA went on record saying that he would definitely be on board, given he had the same kind of control to do his thing like on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Towards the end of last year he told The New York Times “I think we can do it again. I’ve been talking to some of the guys, I was like, ‘Yo, look, I would suggest that you put down everything you know, and trust me one more time.’ “
Obviously given the size and stature of the members of the band nowadays and all of the solo projects going, whether the guys would be able to let their egos slide one last time and give RZA that creative control remains to be seen, but word on the street is it looks like it’s going to happen. Ghostface Killah blew wind into the fire saying that it’s “one last job Wu-Tang Clan must do” and Method Man gave the clearest indicator yet when he said earlier this month, “I already spoke to RZA. It’ll probably happen. Definitely.”
So Wu heads, keep your ears to the ground because this one is getting bigger by the day and come November when the 20th anniversary hits, there could well be one last Wu-Tang album for you to wrap your ears around.
