Virgin is proud to announce Emeli Sande's first single of 2013 titled "Clown". The song features a slow beautiful piano melody accompanied by Emeli's iconic vocal and lyrical talent. The song is a reference to her own life when she was faced with the decision of choosing between her medical and musical career before she became famous.
Emeli says "It's about how I felt when I was trying to get signed. It's about not allowing yourself to be judged by others or to be taken for an idiot. I feel the video reflects that."
Believe it or not she also studied as a Medical Student involved with Neuroscience before she got signed.
"I love the whole mystery behind it. I did four years of medicine, went back to do my fifth and got published with Chipmunk and Diamond Rings." She tried to finish her medical course but eventually decided that her musical career was taking priority.
Since her uprising in 2012 Emeli Sande has become synonymous with success and achievement. Hailing from the small village of Alford in Aberdeenshire which she moved to with her family when she was four, she has dealt with being an outsider from a young age as her father is black and her mother is white. "We were obviously very different to everyone else and I was never really going to fit in."
She has produced numerous chart topping singles such as "Read All About it" with Professor Green and "Next to Me". Emeli has worked with other successful artists such as Alicia Keys, Jay-Z and Rihanna.
Emeli Sande will be performing in the UK next year from as early as March and April across the UK. Tickets are on sale now.
