The mash-up to end all mash-ups

What do you get when you cross heavy metal with tween pop? The answer is a song that Corey Taylor is keen to perform live.
It is one of the most unlikely combinations, but ‘Psychosocial Baby’, the YouTube mash-up of Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ and Slipknot’s ‘Psychosocial’ has amassed over 12 million views since it was uploaded last year. You might have expected Slipknot vocalist Taylor to be incensed at this, but remove the mask and he isn’t a batshit crazy metal head. He’s a normal, albeit excellent, singer with an open mind and high regard for those outside of his genre. Taylor has actually expressed great interest in performing the strange collaboration live, stating in an interview:
“I know Justin wasn’t responsible for it, but I just thought it was so cool. Everybody thought I’d be pissed about it, but I was blown away… I give him respect. He’s a very talented kid and he goes way above and beyond for his fans. I was in Baltimore on my book tour and Justin was nearby in Washington, D.C. I tried to get him down to my reading because I wanted to try to do an acoustic version of ‘Psychosocial Baby’ together. But he was actually visiting children’s hospitals. You can’t say anything bad about a guy who’s visiting children’s hospitals.”
With Slipknot headlining Download next year and Beiber being one of the big winners and the American Music Awards last night, it seems unlikely that their tour paths will be crossing any time soon, but if Taylor is open to a collaboration, you just never know. If the power of the internet can make Psy an international superstar, then this isn’t such an unrealistic possibility. Check out the mix below!
