BassLaced Events score a Perfect 10 for their event in Nottingham on the 9th November!
I’d been itching to get to this event for weeks, and finally the night had come. I’d first picked this night on my club-fiend radar about a month ago, and a month later, I had the pleasure of being able to join Basslaced events, their spectacular line-up and nearly 1000 dancers, skankers and drunkards (I was one of the first two categories, by the way :-) ).
From the moment I’d seen the flyer, I knew that I had to get to this event. A line-up that featured some of my current musical favourites - Redlight, Phaeleh, Dub Phizix, Toddla T, the legendary David Rodigan, AND 16 more acts, all contained in a juicy 7 hour line-up, was one that I needed to witness. I decided that a round-trip of over 200 miles, from London to Nottingham and back again, was totally worth it.
Split into 4 rooms over both the Stealth and Rescue Rooms venues, the night started with a bang, and kept up the pace throughout. With DForm, Gutcha, and Reggae Radio to kick things off, the crowd were very well warmed up and excited for the headliner acts to perform.
After thoroughly enjoying flitting between the four different rooms to hear dbe DJs and The Afterdark Movement, it was time for one of the greatest things to come out of Sheffield since... Sebastian Coe? Yes, Toddla T was making the crowd go wild as per usual, with tracks and original and innovative mixes featuring some of the hottest tunes from the Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Bashment, Reggae and Hip-Hop scenes. It was his artful set with its’ ability to please absolutely every music taste, that really got everyone going. After a sick remix of ‘N****s in Paris’, I really had to say that his set was CRAY. I briefly flitted to Stealth 1 to get a sneaky peek of Pinch, who was doing his thing as per usual, but I had to get back to my future hubby Toddla T. Next in Rescue Rooms was David Rodigan, who not only let us in to his extensive knowledge of music with a sick Reggae set, but he also treated us to lots of his dance-moves as well! The crowd was going absolutely crazy, particularly the 6ft man next to me who was screaming like a schoolgirl.
Next, I went to see Nottingham’s own DJ ED G, and the Jungle vibe was fast and furious, and the crowd was very lively. Unable to resist, I returned to the ‘Ram Jam’ set but left prematurely, since with such a great line-up, I wanted to see a bit of everything. Zed Bias was next on my list and he didn’t fail to impress. Next, I caught the end of one of my faves Phaeleh, who were on a slightly more chilled vibe, but still had everyone dancing. They smoothly mixed straight into the Dub Phizix set which was more up-tempo, and everyone was in their element when they played ‘Marka’.
Finally, after more screaming and jumping around wildly to Melo, Transit Mafia and then JiKay, I was spent. The venue, line-up and the crowd were just right – the atmosphere was electric throughout. Kudos to BassLaced for putting on yet another amazing event, it certainly won’t be my last.
