Halo 4 is the Master Chief of gaming soundtracks

Monday 5th November 2012 | David

The flagship franchise’s latest instalment has an original soundtrack to die for.

The game may not be out until tomorrow, but the music precedes it. Halo 4 is one of the most wildly anticipated games of the year, and the original soundtrack, produced by Neil Davidge, is already rocketing up the charts. At the end of last week, it was ranked 50 in the Billboard Chart, tenth in the Independent Album Billboard chart and third the National Soundtrack Chart in the US.

The interest in the music is expected to be a precursor for the game’s success. Halo has certainly been a big money-maker for Microsoft, amassing nearly $3 billion in revenue since 2001, with eight games spawning a staggering 43 million copies. That figure is going to rise dramatically with the new title, which is also available in a limited edition three disc box set. Both Davidge and 7Hz Productions are proud and thrilled with the soundtrack – and with their chart positions and future profits, they’ve no reason not to be.

If the soundtrack is anything to go by, the game will be another rampaging success. From the various trailers released (one of which you can check out below), it looks decidedly bad-ass. New enemies, complete with burning skulls and lethal weapons – which you can steal. What’s not to love?
