Be sure to pop down to the National Portrait Gallery for the free exhibition Marilyn Monroe: A British Love Affair, highlighting our very own British photographers and personalities who admired her and worked with her during her four-month visit to Britain. Also featured are rare magazine covers taken by André de Dienes and Milton Greene and Monroe’s favourite image of herself, clutching a rose.
Since Marilyn Monroe’s reign, her name has continued to ascend to a state beyond myth, beyond rhetoric and beyond celebrity itself. Not only is she already the most written about woman in history, to commemorate 50 years since her death has showcased an array of fashion events, TV series, Smash and a drama film, My Week with Marilyn. It does seem that the combination of early death and great fame equates to time made up for in retrospective allure.
