Does Prydz come before a fall?

House | Friday 5th October 2012 | David

The Swedish super producer has another track coming soon, and is already being touted as leading the market, despite the presence of a certain mousey DJ.

Eric Prydz recently had his latest offering ‘Every Day’ previewed by Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. It is classically catchy, and is sure to be a club floor-filler in the near future. Having played the song, Lowe stated: “I would say that only one other dance music producer in the art form of making big, big melodic club records in the modern age can stand with Eric Prydz’s level of productivity and emotion, and that is Deadmau5”.

This has caused a storm of debate among the YouTube community, with many stating that Prydz’s long-standing service to the genre leaves him beyond comparison. Some are saying that Deadmau5’s style is focused more towards mainstream sounds, whereas Prydz, who does not collaborate to anywhere near the same extent, offers a more personal touch. His tunes have retained his own brand of house and techno, which many of his fans see as a natural progression of his music making. He is certainly the master of the club anthem, the Obi-Wan to Deadmau5’s Anakin. It remains to be seen whether Deadmau5 can usurp Prydz’s position at the top, but whatever happens, the latter’s loyal following will certainly have something to say about it.

Prydz recently completed an extensive tour of Europe and America. ‘Every Day’ will be officially released later this year.
