Azealia Banks forced to cancel single release

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 27th September 2012 | Osh

Azealia Banks has pulled the release of her new single ‘Esta Noche’ after its producer claimed that he had not given his permission for her to use the track.

Munchi, a producer from Rotterdam, originally penned the track, which Azealia raps over, but had not given his consent for its release, as well as claiming that he had been offered large sums of money in exchange for his blessing. These offers were rejected, with Munchi blasting Banks on Twitter in response.

"No releasing my track, being a spoiled brat, releasing coverwork, release dates before even reaching out is a good look right?" he wrote. "Tell your camp the deal is off I don’t want your fucking $25.000. Fuck off. Go be a puppet bitch to someone else."

After a response from the 212-singer announcing that the song wouldn’t be released as expected, Munchi added to his previous outburst by writing on his Facebook page that he had been “disrespected” and that he wouldn’t accept “a sum of money for my integrity.” He then stated that he does not wish to affiliate with someone like Azealia, who was (according to him) “thirsty for fame and success by portraying occult references in every step”.

Due to this confrontation, this week’s release (25th September) of ‘Esta Noche’ has been cancelled, at least until the dispute is resolved. This however did not stop Azealia from filming the video for the track.

Despite this setback, Banks is still set to begin her sold-out tour of the UK in Manchester tomorrow (28th September), as well as hosting her Mermaid Ball at the London Aquarium next month.
