That Queen's a Hoxton hero

Other | Monday 24th September 2012 | Osh

Queen Elizabeth is officially a Hipster, and how did we not see this coming, the woman is vintage.  Dying your hair a pastel colour to be cool? Pshh all her friends are packing blue rinse, b****s. Do I even need to point out those glasses? Her Maj is so ironic she’s iconic.

You might ask why this has come to my attention. Well, the Queen has just purchased the Andy Warhol classic paintings of her very own face, Warhol being arguably the original Queen of Hipsters. The images come from the Reigning Queens collection part of the Royal Edition which are sprinkled with “diamond dust”, crushed glass made to sparkle like diamonds.

Reigning Queens was based on pre-existing photographs of the monarch and three other royals; Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Queen Ntombi Twala of Swaziland. The photograph used as inspiration for Elizabeth’s collection, came from the 1975 picture taken by Peter Grugeon .

The artwork will be displayed at Windsor Castle later this year along with other official, commissioned and formal portraits demonstrating the Queens representation on the throne for the past six decades.

If you can’t wait to see these pictures, then head on down to Shoreditch this weekend and you’ll be sure to see her Maj in the flesh shimmying her royal behind into a pair of disco pants and studded vintage tee.
