Richie Sambora livin’ on his own prayer

Indie | Thursday 20th September 2012 | Osh

He is best known for rocking out with Bon Jovi, but the veteran guitarist has recently released his third solo album.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Richie Sambora stated that the ever changing nature of the music business prompted the move, saying: “The independent structure has a lot more flexibility and a lot more freedom. I think that’s why I moved towards that.” It certainly seems to be working out for the 53 year old. His latest album, Aftermath of the Lowdown, went out on 17th September in UK, and is a mix of Sambora’s classic guitar mastery, coupled with some Bon Jovi style tracks for the old school fans. The release of the first single, ‘Every Road Leads Home To You’, is imminent, and it is filled with soaring piano sounds and, of course, blistering guitar solos by the man himself. Sambora is involved in the creation of a fan-based video, hailing their support and gravitation to the song.

Happily, the legendary guitarist will still be playing with Bon Jovi, and singer Jon is actively encouraging the solo project – some of the songs from Aftermath of the Lowdown will be played live by Sambora when the band go on tour next year. It is refreshing to see a band supporting the successful solo career of one of their members, especially given Sambora’s media-exposed private life over the years. His addictions to alcohol and painkillers have been well documented, but he is upbeat about the future, stating that: “I’m a man who has fallen down and gotten back up within the glare of the media”. The album itself pays homage to this, with many songs exploring his past life and problems that went with it – ‘You Can Only Get So High’ is a track that is pretty self-explanatory, but Sambora is clearly moving onwards and upwards.

He is planning to be touring in October and November, before being part of Bon Jovi’s new album, set to go out in March.
