The xx Top the Album Chart

Indie | Monday 17th September 2012 | Osh

The xx have beaten The Script to the top of the album chart, with Coexist.

The trio’s second album has topped The Scripts third album by just over 5000 sales. The album was pushed through the chart by an unusual sales tactic - by streaming the album for free.

Starting on the 3rd September 2012, The xx teamed up with Internet Explorer to release Coexist in its entirety to be streamed on the web page http://coexist.thexx.info/ until the 11th September, which was the worldwide release date of their album.

Their new album is typical xx material, with sparse guitar lines, melodic synth lines and vocals that blend into the mix perfectly. Each song has its own unique flavour and with the anticipation that fans having held for this album, the album is set to catapult The xx into even bigger arenas.

Their last album (self-titled) was an award winning LP, full of The xx’s own brand of minimalist post-punk which won the Mercury Music Prize in 2010. The album was first spread by word of mouth, from dedicated fans, which has brought the guys their 2012 North America tour, which starts in October.

The Script may have lost out on the top spot for their album, but they claimed number one this week in the singles chart, ahead of Amelia Lily to get their first Number One of their career.
