We caught up briefly with the amazing Delilah in sunny Newquay at Boardmasters festival before her set.
So how are you enjoying the vibes of boardmasters so far?
Yea the weathers amazing, it seems really cool.
Yea the weathers so nice, have you been down to the beach or anything yet?
I literally got ready and that’s been it, just guna eat and stuff before having a wander round!
And you’ve done quite a few festivals this summer, which has been your favourite so far?
Umm… hopefully today will be my favourite, but so far I’d probably say Wireless.
And you did Hackney Weekender didn’t you?
Yea that was a good one but the weather wasn’t great though but the atmosphere was amazing!
Must have been pretty cool playing in Hackney where you’re from?
Well I’m not actually from Hackney, I live there now but originally I’m from Camden, which is North London, but everyone seems to think I’m from Hackney and it would bug a lot of people but it doesn’t really bother me! So yea I’m actually a North London Girl.
So you’ve just released your debut album ‘From The Roots Up’, Will you be playing much from that in your set today?
Well we’ve only got a short set so there will be some bits from the album, there’ll be a little section of medleys. And yea just guna have some fun, its not that long so yea not too much pressure.
You’ve come so far since doing ‘Time’ with Chase and Status, how was it working with them?
It was good, I got to travel the world with them, and watch them grow met so many different producers and stuff. such good experience working with a live band and stuff so yea it was really good fun but I’m really happy to be doing my own thing, It’s funny because it’s like having to start at the beginning again but to be honest I’d rather be playing intimately to 20 people that are there to see me rather than 2000 that aren’t.
And you supported Maverick Sabre on his UK tour this year, how was that?
Great! We’re good friends and its always nice to perform with someone you like. He’s also part of the Chase and Status alumni so yea it was good to be supporting him. And I’m kind of supporting him today!
Yea you’re on just before him aren’t you! So is there anything in the pipeline for possibly doing a collaboration with him?
Well There was meant to be, we were meant to be sorting something then but mostly because we’ve both been so busy it hasn’t quite happened. Like he’d send me something and then I sent him something back and then it just hasn’t quite happened
So watch this space really! If you could work with any artist in the world to do a duet who would it be?
Hmmm Kanye West? I think he’d be really fun to work with!
Yea that would be really cool! And just quickly back to your album, I have to ask. the song ‘Shades of Grey’ anything to do with the book 50 Shades of Grey?
(both have a giggle) It’s guna be brought up a lot more, it’s my next single and we actually just shot the video for it yesterday! Umm so yea its nothing to do with it, it’s a very very very bad coincidence and I wrote that song in 2009, I changed the name though about two years ago when I definitely hadn’t heard of the Shades of Grey trilogy. I haven’t read them, I refuse to be part of it, I’m sure they’re amazing but I’d much rather have a great real sex life than read about one. If it’s going to encourage people to go and buy it then go and buy it. If I sell 50 million copies then it can’t be a bad thing!
No definitely not! And what are your plans for the rest of 2012 and into 2013?
Well I have a headline tour in October all over the UK, umm releasing my next single and just starting work on the new album really!
Well best of luck with everything, thank you for chatting with us, and we’ll leave you to get back to your food.
I’m really not going to eat it, its looks disgusting, what even is it?
(To which her manager replies “vegetarian Cottage Pie.”)
Eww that even sounds disgusting!
Delilah kicks off her UK tour in Leicester on the 20th October.
And her album ‘From the Roots Up’ is available now.
