Danny Boyle Did Us Proud

The opening ceremony wasn’t actually that bad
Having developed a bit of a reputation amongst those who I work alongside with as being quick to voice my generally negative opinion on most popular aspects of our culture, naturally it was expected that I would have a thing or two to say about the biggest event of 2012.
Indeed I was prepared to criticise whatever was displayed before me from the comfortable set up of my lounge with a relaxing beverage at hand. Yet from the start I hand a hunch that I might have to revisit my opinion; with Danny Boyle being the creative force behind the whole, you could not expect yourself being subjected to a mediocre excuse for an opening ceremony. I found the documentation of our history and culture was executed with such finesse, with each event running so smoothly after one another. The music choices were exquisite; I smiled with pride when the greats of the 60’s and 70’s were played and was on my knees when the actors started raving to firestarter. All in all I felt that no one could fault it as a more than enjoyable experience watching the finest examples of Britain’s heritage.
Whilst it may not have been as extravagant as Beijing’s opening performance four years ago, for a close to £24 billion costing Olympics the opening ceremony proved to not be a total shambles. Danny Boyle certainly should take a bow, and my interest in the Olympics has slightly increased. The only spoil of my night came from the lack of understanding and appreciation of the event expressed on the social networking world by those younger than me… Sir Tim Berners Lee would certainly have a thing or two to say about that.
