Bailey’s East End
Monday 23rd July 2012 | Osh
David Bailey is undoubtedly stuff of fashion photography legend. The list of iconic people he has photographed includes doe-eyed face of the sixties Twiggy, ex-girlfriend and icon Jean Shrimpton, the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Kate Moss to name but a few and now there is a new exhibition focused on his relationship with the East End.
Located in the midst of where he grew up in Newham the exhibition celebrates the ‘local boy done good’ and features photos focusing on the surrounding area from the sixties to the present day. What with the Olympics and the regeneration of the East end it is the perfect opportunity to show the beauty of what would otherwise be considered normal urban surroundings. On the exhibition guide it says it will show the changing landscape of the East end over the years from the swinging 60s through the 80s to the present day and yeah it does that and it does it well. However, this isn't just a run of the mill informative spot the difference between the landscape then and the landscape now. It is an exhibition more about the people, Bailey's daring compositions and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Running until 5th August 2012 at Compressor House at Royal Docks there is still time to check out the inspiring photographs from a legend.
