Legal saga comes to an end for the rapper
On Wednesday 18th July former Hot Boy, B.G, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for possession of a firearm and obstructing the course of justice by means of witness tampering. Arrested in a traffic stop 2009, he pleaded guilty for being in possession of the firearm and then proceeded to try and convince one of his associates to claim ownership of the gun.
Not surprisingly, prosecutors initially pushed for an exceptionally harsh sentence: asking for 25-30 years on account of B.G’s previous criminal activity. On top of this they also tried to cite his music videos as examples of his profiting off violence embedded in New Orleans. However U.S District Judge Ginger Berrigan declined the use of these as a basis for a lengthier sentence.
Whilst on the outside a 14 year sentence still seems an unfortunate result, the New Orleans rapper is actually in good spirits about the outcome: in a statement released on the weekend he said that he was ‘relieved’ to find out his fate was almost half the length of what he thought it would be originally, expressing his optimism about the whole affair. “I am ready to get my sentence started because it’s not RIP B.G, it’s free B.G” the statement read, adding that he feels “happy and blessed that I will still be a young man and still be able to see daylight because I am a someone, a dad, a brother, a son”
