Baby’s on Fire- Die Antwoord

The quirky, in many ways unique South African rap group recently released a music video to “Baby’s on Fire” from their 2012 record Ten$Ion. Their style has been compared to that of Lady Gaga of a weird out of this world nature that goes without saying! The song Baby’s on Fire is very pop with hints of techno, going on the concept “futuristic rap-rave” movement.
The video embodies the lead vocalists Ninja and Yo-Landi as brother and sister in a somewhat dysfunctional family where Yo-Landi acts to be the ‘cock-blocker` to his sister. The video is improved or should I say toned-down from “I think your freeky”. Not something I would download onto iTunes but it depends what sort of genre you like, although Ninja does have some flow. Is this the direction our once beloved Hip Hop is going?
Maybe Hip hop is dead....or just in South Africa.
