On a list of celebrities that keep the world entertained with their constantly changing style, we reckon Rihanna would be pretty high up. From asymmetric bobs to hot red dye, ghetto chic snapbacks and high tops, and more leather than an Eastwood western, she’s experimented with a rollercoaster of looks in her sever-year career.
The Bajan performer’s sartorial preferences may not have been without its controversies, but somehow she still manages to be that girl most girls want to dress like. The Topshop ‘PEACE’ crop top she wore to Coachella was spotted on a pretty significant number of girls roaming the mud-caked grounds of Hyde Park at Wireless this year. Case and point.
Earlier this year she was spotted at River Island's Oxford Street store with a pad and pen, causing the rumour mill to spiral into a frenzy of speculation. She’s six albums down the line, recently tried her hand at acting in Battleship, and now it has officially been confirmed that Rihanna is going to be focusing her efforts in the fashion world by designing her first collection, in collaboration with the high street giants.
It’s a good move for River Island seeing as most of the things Rihanna wears are not just lust-worthy but so damn wearable. She stays away from the theatrics of Gaga and the manic creations of Nicki in favour of sexed-up streetwear that elevates her to girl crush status. Admittedly, not everyone can get away with wearing hotpants and thigh-high leather boots in the daytime, but if you can good for you.
The collection, as yet unnamed, is currently on schedule to be unleashed upon the British high street in spring 2013. Although we can’t be entirely certain of what to expect (cheek-baring denim hotpants? Fishnets and garters? ‘Thug Life’ transfer tattoos?) we can guarantee that the Rihanna Navy will fall in line.
